Preflight Checklist

  • I use the latest version of YouTube Music (Application).
  • I have searched the issue tracker for a feature request that matches the one I want to file, without success.

Problem Description

Not sure if this is something that can be addressed. Whenever you play a song, it should play the song, not the YouTube video that always redirects. This causes problems whenever you want to hear a song without the video's SFX over it, or specific Mixes different from the original.

Let's say you want to listen "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins, and among all options in the Home page, you open the album "Face Value", expecting to listen to the song, but then you encounter the VIDEO version, and when it's the video, the quality of the audio is awful, and even the video toggle plug in can't fix that.

Other example is when you want to listen a mix version of the original. But as soon as you click on it you encounter the music video of the ORIGINAL song, not even the mix.

I think it's necessary to look for a solution, because it's just stupid that YouTube does this when you can look for the specific song and it won't stop you, so there is no point.

Proposed Solution

IIRC, if you dig enough in an artist's channel, they have (or had) playlists linking to the SONGS, all of them, and not the stupid videos.

Update: I confirm it's no longer the case.

Alternatives Considered

The only "bug" I found is that if you search the artist's name, then the album's name and then "topic", you will find what seems to be a playlists featuring the songs and not the videos. If you copy the link and paste it in another tab, it WILL actually play the first song, but the system marks it as if you were playing the video.

Additional Information

I have nothing else to add, but I have hope to see this issue solved, so I can finally listen WHAT I WANT TO LISTEN and not YouTube.

Please bring this feature 🙏.Its really annoying especially when playing radios because the video songs have very poor audio quality and most of the time there are no lyrics(or even if they are present they cannot get time-synced).

If they are a youtube music premium feature sadly I think it is server sided, so I don't think anything can be done on the end of this app
