Additional Information
when I try to enter the client After exiting it Windows complaints that there's no YouTube music in OS and asks if I want to remove the shortcut.
Are you using portable version of YTMD?
no. normal version
Are you sure the program is deleted?
Maybe the shortcut points to the wrong place?
I'm having the same issue. I'm on windows 11, and i downloaded the regular file ending in EXE. Every time the app is closed fully, the shortcut says "The item 'Youtube Music.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly."
It can be reproduced by downloading the EXE version. When you launch it, pin the currently running version to the taskbar. If you close the app fully, when pressing the shortcut, it will display an error message "The item 'Youtube Music.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly."
It is reproducible on Windows 10. First, I installed the app, played around with the extension and tried to close it, thinking it would be minimised to the tray, but the app closed. I tried to open it again, but a window popped up telling me that the location the shortcut points to doesn't exist anymore.
I dug a bit further and looked at where youtube-music is installed on first start and found that it's in the windows temp folder, which is a bit odd, and indeed after closing the app the folder containing youtube-music in the temp folder is deleted.
Oooooooooooh, with that info I'd suspect there is smth wrong with the installer
In the meantime, I have found a workaround by installing youtube-music via winget.
EDIT: I think we might overlooked this note in the release notes:

that has been in the release notes for each individual release for ages actually xd
